Divorce Adjustment

  • Adults
  • Children
  • Families

Definition:

Estimates from the US Census tell us that almost half of all marriages today end in divorce, and the average marriage lasts almost seven years. This averages to almost one million divorces per year for the last ten years. If you factor in the ending of gay and lesbian relationships (if they can't be legally married, then they can't be legally divorced), as well as the "24th Century Family" who are committed but unmarried heterosexual couples, the numbers grow even more.

Symptoms:

Post divorce family structure that is extremely unhealthy or unsuccessful for one or more of the family members.

Many times, children seem to feel caught in the middle of their divorcing parents, and may show signs of distress through a variety of emotional and/or behavioral expressions.
