Seeking Drug-Free Treatment of Mental Disorders? Consider Biofeedback and Neurofeedback

Various advances in science and medicine have made it possible for therapists to use direct measures of an individual’s biological feedback to facilitate and reinforce training sessions to improve focus and attention, alleviate anxiety, deal with stress, manage pain and optimize performance. Chapin & Russell Associates is one of the area’s only biofeedback and neurofeedback specialists with the equipment and advanced training necessary to offer neurotherapy.

Understanding Biofeedback and Neurofeedback

Biofeedback therapy consists of thermal biofeedback (skin temperature), electromyography (muscle tension) and neurofeedback (electrical brain activity). Primarily, Chapin & Russell focuses on the neurofeedback element of biofeedback therapy. During neurofeedback therapy, our team measures your brain’s electrical signals using an electroencephalogram (EEG) with sensors attached to your scalp. While monitoring brain activity, we introduce clients to specific games, music, images and videos meant to elicit reactions from your brain. After evaluating the results of your brain activity, our counselors identify mental activities and techniques best for managing and resolving potential mental disorders.

Why Our Clients Prefer Neurofeedback Therapy

While neurotherapy treatment is still not widely available throughout the US, those who choose this treatment option often find it more beneficial than other treatment methods. Chapin & Russell has found our clients prefer neurotherapy due to its effectiveness, non-invasiveness, and lack of side effects.

  • An Effective Treatment – Neurofeedback therapy has incredible success in treating our clients’ various mental health disorders. Neurotherapy treatments teach your brain how to manage emotions or handle tasks more efficiently. Also, the training learned through neurotherapy has been found to have long lasting benefits.
  • Non-Invasive – While some mental disorders can be treated through medication, relying on prescriptions isn’t the preferred treatment option for everyone. For this reason, neurotherapy is preferred for its non-invasiveness. Neurofeedback therapy is a simple, painless, and drug-free procedure that most individuals can benefit from.
  • No Side Effects – Medication treatment can sometimes lead to unwanted or unpleasant side effects. While it’s a matter of finding the proper medication, some individuals find it challenging to select a prescription that works best. Thus, many clients choose neurotherapy as a safe and side effect free treatment option.
